Health forms for yoga and meditation classes
We have provided health forms for you to adapt and personalise for teaching yoga and meditation.
GDPR-Compliant Health Forms
The UK DPN offers health forms updated to comply with EU GDPR rules. For members in other countries, ensure your forms meet national Data Protection requirements.
Retaining Student Records
For insurance purposes, maintain student records (including attendance and health forms) for 7 years after their last class with you. Inform students about secure and responsible data handling.
Managing Contact Lists
Whether using paper forms, digital lists, or online booking systems, let students know they can opt out of future class communications while ensuring compliance with privacy laws.

Lucy's Health Form
Lucy Bannister, a UK DPN member, has shared her health form with us to show how she has used the DPN health form and personalised it to be compliant with UK Data Protection Law. Lucy also uses a web-based booking system. Thank you Lucy!
The health form is one way to collect information that enables you to contact your class members and also to know their specific health conditions so that you can modify your classes appropriately. Here are good questions to consider when collecting and storing information about your students:
- What information are you collecting?
- Why do you need this information?
- What do you need the information for?
- How do you store it securely?
- How do you securely transport paper information?
Remember to collect only information that is helpful to you as a Dru teacher/yoga therapist/Ayurveda Health Coach.
Only ask for information that directly helps you as a Dru teacher, yoga therapist, or Ayurveda Health Coach. For example, you don't need to know if someone is married if it doesn't relate to your classes. Make sure students understand that the questions you ask are relevant to their well-being and the class.
More information is available on the ICO website: ico.org.uk
The ICO 'Information Commissioner's Office' is the UK’s independent authority set up to uphold information rights in the public interest, promoting openness by public bodies and data privacy for individuals.

Your policy should be relevant to how you use other people's personal information.

yoga and music
Music in your class
Music is the seasoning that adds flavour to your Dru Yoga class. It enlivens activations, sets the mood for EBRs and asanas and calms the room for relaxation. If you want to have access to music and avoid legal issues, you need to look into licences to play music.
There is now a licence called TheMusicLicence. This combines the previous PRS and the PPL licences.
If you teach in a public venue, check with the venue as they may already have a licence.
For Mobile Businesses
Are you a mobile business, ie do you teach in a number of venues? For further advice and up-to-date info go to: www.pplprs.co.uk/get-themusiclicence or call 0800 015 6228.
Royalty-Free Music
To save on licensing, use royalty-free or non-copyrighted music. Music over 70 years old is copyright-free. Dru (UK) CDs are exempt from PPL and PRS. Some royalty-free platforms may require credit.

Safety policy
Insurance coverage for your live online classes
If you have Professional Indemnity Insurance with Balens (through the DPN), then your live online yoga classes are covered by the Balens comprehensive yoga teacher's insurance.
The only exception is that Balens comprehensive insurance does not cover any claims made from the USA or Canada.
For each live online yoga class that you teach, DPN members should record:
teaching from experience
disclaimer and safety video
If you are offering free or saleable online Dru Yoga sessions through your website, then it’s important to write your own disclaimer and consider making your own safety video.
As an example, see the disclaimer for some inspiration. Invite your students to read your disclaimer statement and watch your safety video before doing any online classes.
In addition to a short disclaimer focusing on safety, you may wish to provide a link to a longer safety policy written in more legal language.
